Mariposa Lily

One of my favorite wildflowers: Mariposa Lily

They start out looking like a miniature rosebud.

They open quickly after the bud first appears.

The woods is full of them this year. Usually I just enjoy them in the woods, but there are so many this year that I tried bringing some inside.

This is my second group. The first lasted a week with fresh water every day. I was very pleasantly surprised as wildflowers typically do not last long indoors.

A few raindrops on these from last night’s wonderful showers: Mariposa Lily

They are beautiful. Do they have any scent?

Sadly, no. The only scent I detect in the entire woods is pine and grass – very nice, especially on a warm day, but a floral undertone would be nice also :)

Mariposa is Spanish for butterfly, the two top petals do resemble butterfly wings. So beautiful.

Yes, they are beautiful. I think I knew that mariposa was a Spanish word, but I didn’t know the translation – thank you!

I enjoyed looking at these photos when you first posted them.
I keep coming back to them because they are such a nice distraction from everything else…
