Somers in bright light

The sun came out this afternoon. The wind picked up. Karl and I headed to Somers for a walk before the next rain came.

This afternoon had that magic light that happens after a rain when the sky and air seem washed clean.

The sun was hitting at just the right angle to turn every color up to its most vivid hue.

Poor dear

The poor deer is all wet as it has been raining all morning. We need the rain and things are getting green, green, green. But I wouldn’t want to be wet like that. Karl, who will lay and let the snow cover him up, does not like the rain. She didn’t actually seem bothered by being wet but I’d like to invite them all inside to dry off…not really practical…

Poor dear.

***Just as I hit publish, the sun came out!

Glacier Lily

From this morning’s walk. I almost missed it and didn’t see another.

Their heads are turned down and the bloom is about as big as 1/2 my thumb with the top no higher than the grass.

In situ.

Up in the air

Friday afternoon, I heard what sounded like a really small helicopter…

It WAS a really small helicopter!

Actually, a fairly large remote control helipcopter…

The “controllers” were situated on the property adjacent to mine. I had a pretty good idea who they might be, but Karl and I walked over to check. Gravity Shots is the website for a Montana Aerial Photography company and I had seen the site. Husband and wife team Jeff and Adele Scholl combined love of Montana, the outdoors, photography and flying – good on them! Their photos are fantastic. They were hired by my part time neighbors.

Right above me – you can see the camera and extended lens.

Not sharp focus but a little more detail.

Karl watched too.

Might as well sit down and enjoy the show.

Sunny Slow Saturday

Our Saturday didn’t start slow, but it did start sunny. It has been a beautiful day – the temperature reached 68 making last week’s blast of wintry weather seem like a dim memory.

Karl and I rolled down the driveway at 7:40 in the a.m. on our way to Whitefish and the vet – no worries!! – this was a scheduled bi-annual “senior” checkup. Karl was 8 in March and is now a senior. But he checked out like the young-at-heart dog that he is getting a “Great Healthy Normal” on his report card. At our last checkup, it was suggested that Karl lose a bit of weight to ease pressure on aging joints. He weighed in down 4 pounds with 4 to go….which means at halfway toward his goal he is doing much better than Bob – or me!

We left early for our appointment so there was time for a long walk at the Whitefish soccer field park. We got there and done with our walk in the nick of time. By the time we left cars were streaming in for soccer and baseball. Kids, dogs, parents – yikes!

Going to the vet is exhausting. Karl gets anxious, I work on staying calm to help him, we wait, we both get too warm…by the time we left I wanted another shower and we both wanted naps.

The shade at home felt pretty good to a tired dog.
