Freaky Friday

Friday morning dawned clear and cool.

Not a cloud in the sky.

But just after the Friday meeting started…my weekly VERY IMPORTANT Client meeting…the power went out.

I work on a laptop with a full battery so my computer was fine. But my primary internet connection is via the phone company with a modem and router that require electricity. And this morning, I was running the meeting as the rest of the team had other obligations.

Poof – dead air.

But, I have a Verizon Air card and I have 3G service at the house…so it was a momentary blip, but still…

Nearly 4 years in this house through blizzards and thunderstorms and wind storms and nothing more than blinking lights on the odd occasion.

A little freaky.

The power was out an hour – very quiet. It came on shortly after the meeting ended but before I called the electric co-op and it was lunchtime.

I decided to take a relaxed lunch break outside.

So did Karl.

Guess he felt a bit freaky as well.

Freaky Friday.

Echo Lake in the morning

Echo Lake…due east of home, along a dirt and gravel road over the foothills. On a weekday morning, there is minimal activity on the water – a few fisherman, a few waterskiers.

We access this piece of lakeshore from a public fishing access site. There is a nice trail around an inlet that provides plenty in the way of things to explore for Karl and beautiful vistas for me. We have a long amble as it is cool now, but getting warm on its way to hot.

Busy Morning

It’s happening…Summer! Despite a cool weekend with some good soaking rain showers, just a couple of warm, dry days and things are looking like they need a drink.

In preparation for a day forecast to hit 86F, I got some water going.

I’d like to keep some green and it works best to stay a bit ahead of the drying out.

Karl and I jointly supervised the watering…

Breakfast and then a jaunt over the back of foothills, (avoiding the chip sealing operations going on to our west) for a walk by Echo Lake before the sun gets too high….busy morning.

Local scenery

Late, yesterday afternoon, Karl and I took a run into Bigfork for a short walk and a few errands. There were information signs from the highway department…the stretch of highway from my road south to Bigfork and north to the next town of Creston is due to be chip sealed today (Wednesday) though Friday…expect long delays…AND A MESS. Karl, the Jeeper and I will leave that highway alone until they are done. The pantry and frig are thankfully full.

But while we were out…

A favorite barn and farm.

Bright, gold canola sets off another farm.

Looking north on the road home, most of the snow is gone from the mountains. All is green. The current forecast is for warm (upper 70’s to upper 80’s F) and dry…It can dry astonishingly fast so I took some time to breathe in the green of the local scenery.

One day in July

Yesterday started cold, damp and dreary.

That required a fire…in the woodstove…in July!!

I believe the cozy fire went a long way towards Bob forgiving the indigities he suffered while I was trying to get a 4th of July photo (see yesterday’s post…)

It was a lazy day all around as short squalls alternated with brilliant sunshine and blue sky. You can see a bit of a shadow behind the big chair…

Some of the squalls were accompanied by thunder…

But then…..!!! – A rainbow. One day in July.

Bah humbug

Bob sums up what our household thinks about fireworks.

**The fireworks were not actually that bad this year. Karl spent a minimal amount of time in the closet and they were not bad enough to send Bob under the bed nor keep me awake. Bob’s expression is likely due to the fact that I kept putting the ribbons on him for a photo :)!
