Last Leg: Colorado City to South Fork
This is going to be short.
The drive today was short: 174 miles or so but 150 on a 2 lane over a mountain pass.
BUT, last night, the wind!!! It blew so hard that the power was off and on and I finally brought slides in to decrease the rocking and the noise. Every time I drifted off, some noise woke me or Auggie or Bear who were also restless because of the noise.
The wind finally died down 2:00 a.m. ish but I’m not sure if it was 2:00 DST or the fall back 2:00.
I slept soundly until 5:00 a.m. fall back time but did not feel at all rested. The skies in my travel direction looked black and the wind was gusting, but weather looked to get worse so I got going ASAP.
It was windy in spots and rainy, but no snow. Not as bad as I feared and with a supply stop arrived at my folks shortly after 1:00 p.m. All was situated quickly and we had a wonderful afternoon relaxing and watching football AND enjoying Bill’s margaritas and guacamole followed by my mother’s Mac ‘n Cheese and Bill’s special beans for supper.
Dinner was extra early for my benefit and I ran out of steam about 5:15 p.m.
Bear, Auggie and I are all well, settled into our cozy spot (see Instagram) and looking forward to sitting here and being with family.
I’m off to bed.
Below, a few scenes from the road:
Coming down off La Veta Pass.
From WalMart in Alamosa – the skies over the pass, i.e. east: the route I came.
Headed west toward South Fork from Alamosa.
