Pretty bird: Western Tanager
This is maybe the fourth time I’ve seen a Western Tanager. They pass through and this one was outside the sunroom making a bit of a racket. Auggie was sitting near the house watching. I found no bodies so don’t believe Auggie had been misbehaving.

That is such a beautiful bird. It looks almost like a tropical species with those colours. Tell Auggie to look but not touch!
It does look tropical! I love the various birds we have but there aren’t many that have a lot of color so it is always fun to see these. I heard several in another part of the woods, while walking last evening. They have a distinctive song that seems somewhere between an insect and a robin. I was rather firm with Auggie and eventually brought him inside but it didn’t appear that he’d done damage to another bird.
Love seeing Western Tanagers as they represent the west and the high country to me…
