This ‘n that

Sometime over the weekend, I noticed a new status icon on my Windows 8.1 Task bar…

A mouse hover displayed the icon hint: “Get Windows 10” !

A Click on the icon brings up the Windows 10 reservation dialog. If you haven’t reserved, there will be a reserve button in the vicinity of the red circle above. I reserved before taking a screen capture.

The buzz is that Windows 10 will start rolling out on July 29 to those who have reserved.

Color me excited!

Meanwhile, after a warm and VERY, VERY dry April and May – scary dry…we started getting rain. A couple of days about 6 drops. Then some pour little cloud released a downpour that lasted maybe 3 minutes. It was like teaser rain.

But yesterday, with flood watch warnings and a forecast of possibly severe thunderstorms with wind and hail…a gentle, steady rain began. It went through the night and continues this morning. It is the perfect kind of rain to have after such a dry spell as it is soaking in and not running off.

Not everyone in my house is as happy as me about the rain…

    Especially for Margaret :) !! http://www.zdnet.com/article/will-your-pc-run-windows-10-use-this-well-hidden-compatibility-checker-to-find-out/

But, Srsly…there is still much unknown about how Windows 10 will roll out. A lot of media attention and speculation. For my part, I want it! The new browser alone is incredible and the interface and how all devices will eventually work … I think it will change much about how we use our devices.

That said…this is a huge undertaking and I haven’t a clue how Microsoft could possibly test this massive rollout. As a software developer, it is a bit mind boggling AND as a software developer, I expect that there may be glitches. Still, I signed on and can’t wait to give this first part of the New Microsoft to unfold.

For the record…I have the Update icon on my primary computer, but it has not appeared on my Windows 8.1 tablet. Or my Windows 8.1 phone… the phone is rumored to be 2 months behind the PC rollout. We’ll see about the tablet – it just might not be compatible ???

    Fun times!!!

Excitement! I got the icon, too, and I reserved Windows 10. It does say you can install it later, so as I don’t use this computer myself much, Tasos does, and he will be seriously annoyed if something goes wrong, I will probably wait until it has been tested by others…before actual installation.
I used to be a Beta tester for anti virus software so I am used to things going wrong.

Fabulous flower photo with raindrops in your next post!

It occurred to me this morning that the other thing to consider for an older device is RAM and Graphics capability and hard drive speed as well. I could not find anything definitive and much depends on how the desktop is used. Microsoft’s line is that any device that runs Win 7 will run Win 8+ and that memory usage has been optimized making it able to run with less RAM. I’ll keep an eye out for any specs and send them on to you.

Thanks re the flower photo – I like the crop (last photo) especially enlarged (dbl-click).
