In the yard

Shortly after 5:00 p.m., I was at a good stopping point. Bob was inside. Perfect for some outside time for Bear and me.

Oh, Bear…

This is after 30 minutes of squirrel chasing. I am inside getting a glass of wine…

…and then sitting. The day has been beautiful with mostly sun and the air cool and crisp as befits a mid-October Montana day.

Off to my left, Bear chased ground squirrels.

A wonderful end of the work day and before supper break…

…in the yard.

Miracles

It might not look like a miracle to you.

But all of these photos were taken on Sunday.

And Bear, laid down…on his own…without a treat.

And he relaxed, and watched and sniffed.

Almost 5 months ago, when we returned from Spokane in the motorhome…Bear, 6 1/2 years old, having lost his loving person…and flown 2500 miles…then spent a night in a motorhome…travelling another 250 miles in that motorhome…to Montana and a new home with a “girl” and a cat and a woods full of new smells…and a BIG SKY!!! – it had to have been overwhelming to the extreme for him.

Our first walks were rather exciting.

I had a collar AND a harness on him and 2 leashes.

I was afraid that if there was an equipment failure he would be in the next county before he stopped.

But now…a miracle. He looks to me. He knows his house, his property – his home.

We go out and explore together.

And now we enjoy together…from the front porch…miracles!

***Bear and Bob…it progresses….slowly :)!

Saturday Evening

Saturday evening, just before 8:00 p.m.

Bear and I were outside for a last patrol before bedtime. The sky was clear and the waxing crescent of moonshine was low in the sky on its way to moonset. It was so clear and bright that I toyed with the thought of taking the Jeep to the spot on the road home in an hour or so to see what things might look like – a crescent moon setting.

But, I was ready to call it a day so contented myself with photos from the yard.

Bear by the light of the crescent moon…actually his lighted collar :)!

***Bear has adjusted to wearing the collar and appears to have no problem navigating the woods in the dark of morning and evening. I did have to get him his own as Karl’s was too big and no good way to adjust it small enough. BUT, the old company was gone and this collar is from Firefly K9 Products – it is made much better. This weekend we tried on our hunter orange wear…had to order Bear his own orange as well.

Fall afternoon

Early Fall afternoon.

Perfect weather: mid-60’s (F), not a cloud in the sky, a light breeze with a hint of cool, the Aspens starting to turn…

After a morning and afternoon of work session/client meeting…

Bob was out all afternoon so I did not feel bad putting him in the motorhome with fresh water and a full food dish so that Bear and I could putz about the yard and woods.

And after all that putzing… enjoy a treat.

And a drink of water.

Fall afternoon.
