Home, cont’d.

We last left our story with a safe arrival home to a clean house and slightly grumpy Bob…

Wednesday (the day after arrival), I got back to work, back to our home routine, took Bear to Kalispell with me to pick up mail, a few grocery items, get the Jeep washed and have a walk behind Costco. It was a good work day and much accomplished.

Thursday I woke with not much voice and a low, slow feeling and by midday had to give it up…

I spent most of Thursday afternoon, Friday and Saturday here…

Bear has been a champ! And maybe he needed some extra rest as well after the excitement of travelling.

I am grateful that his reliability of staying on the property continues and also that he is content cruising the woods on his own. I bundled up and watched from the front porch, thankful that I didn’t have to be following.

The fresh air always felt good as well. It has been very mild and it will be touch and go whether we even have a white Christmas!

Bob, of course, thinks staying in bed all day is perfect and his grumpiness disappeared completely. I will say that he did look at me with some concern when I had a coughing fit…I do believe both he and Bear knew/know that I was not feeling well and they provided calm affection as well as quiet.

This morning I’m feeling much better although slaying dragons and/or running a marathon are not going to be on the schedule.

Mr. Beam

Mr. Beam is the manufacturer of various kinds of lights…mostly motion sensor kind of lights.

I recently purchased a couple or several…for the driveway…for Hailley…or maybe for me.

They are powered by batteries.

After testing with the “stakes” they come with and thinking about snow… I decided to mount them midway up a few trees. I had some roofing material so made them them their own roofs :)!

We’ll see how they hold up.

But, so far, I am sold! They are inexpensive, easy to mount, they work!

Meanwhile…

Bob and Bear progress….

Some d’accord!!!… there is tail wagging out of the range of photo.

And sometimes some nose touching…

When we return…maybe….!

But meantime…Bob is not in favor of all of the commotion that is involved in leave-taking…

First Fall Alpenglo

Another beautiful Fall day and enough clouds in the right places for the first rosy alpenglo of Fall. I was out with Bear when it started and it can be fleeting so did not go back for my camera. Above is from the phone camera. A little soft but the color is true.

**Bear and Bob notes:
As the days get shorter and the nights longer, we are all adjusting. Sunset is 6:20 p.m. and Sunrise 8:20 a.m..

Although Bear settled down for bedtime during the summer when bedtime was often still in daylight, now that there is more dark, he sometimes stays with me in the office or kitchen, but more often than not, goes to bed when we come in at sunset. He will go out for a before bedtime outing if I show him his lighted collar but does not ask to go out and I sometimes have to wake him :)! In the morning, he will wag his tail and give me kisses…from his bed, but unless I coax he is happy to stay in until it gets light…so I let him! Bob has his quick outing for morning business, breakfast and then he goes back to bed as well. I get a couple of hours to have a bit of quiet time, cook or bake and work a bit before a morning break outside with Bear. Not a bad routine. We’ll see what happens when we get snow on the ground!

a Saturday in October

This photo…serendipity…

On the way to town I drove into a nursery…the entrance on a kind of blind curve.

But, I was too early, the nursery opened 30 minutes later.

I turned around in the lot and before getting back on the highway…the clouds and the light and the snow…and the birds: serendipty!

Another day of spectacular light.

Bear with me in the Jeep, we had a walk, fueled the Jeep, got groceries and other supplies.

We were home just before noon. Bear ran the property while I unloaded and put away.

Then…worn out from the morning and asleep in his chair, all supplies put away….Bob and I had our time…on the front porch.

Low tech pen and paper…I sat and thought and made my list for the rest of the weekend:
clean floors
roast tomatoes
roast cauliflower
cabbage soup
pesto mac n cheese
pot of beans
wild rice for this week…

Later.

Some of the list done.

Bob inside for a nap.

Bear and I outside. Gray skies. Drizzle.

The beardog patrols the property.

A Fall afternoon. The larch are lightening.

a Saturday…in October.

In the yard

Shortly after 5:00 p.m., I was at a good stopping point. Bob was inside. Perfect for some outside time for Bear and me.

Oh, Bear…

This is after 30 minutes of squirrel chasing. I am inside getting a glass of wine…

…and then sitting. The day has been beautiful with mostly sun and the air cool and crisp as befits a mid-October Montana day.

Off to my left, Bear chased ground squirrels.

A wonderful end of the work day and before supper break…

…in the yard.
