Fall afternoon

Early Fall afternoon.

Perfect weather: mid-60’s (F), not a cloud in the sky, a light breeze with a hint of cool, the Aspens starting to turn…

After a morning and afternoon of work session/client meeting…

Bob was out all afternoon so I did not feel bad putting him in the motorhome with fresh water and a full food dish so that Bear and I could putz about the yard and woods.

And after all that putzing… enjoy a treat.

And a drink of water.

Fall afternoon.

Eclairs

Weekends, I typically have a cooking and/or baking plan. Yesterday morning as I gathered ingredients and utensils for making the creme patisserie for eclairs I was struck by how much I enjoy puttering in the house, even though I spend most of my weekdays here as well. The light, the quiet, the serenity of just being here is so wonderful for me that it is sometimes hard to go anywhere that is a bit noisy or crowded.

I took the above photo to share some of that.

And then I made the creme.

This morning, with the creme fully chilled, I made the shells, stuffed them with creme and dripped the chocolate glaze. I’ve been making the pastry shells from Julia Child’s recipe…practice runs, you know :)! They are amazingly simple and fast to mix and get in the oven and another of those cooking astonishments – making something that seems so complicated and turns out to be simple and great fun.

Eclairs.

Tough guys

He doesn’t look so tough in that photo. It was a tough day, though.

Bear broke a molar and it was removed today. The roots of the molar were healthy. It was a job getting it out. Amazing to me, Bear was not acting uncomfortable WITH the broken tooth and it had been broken long enough that my clue that something was wrong was his breath smelled like a dead animal…yea.

It is now 7:30 p.m. Although he is still not quite 100%, we took a walk and he wanted to walk the loop so we did. He trotted around like normal, although I did have him on leash so he was bound my speed. He did want to come right inside and is sound asleep.

He had a gruel of chicken broth, quinoa and mashed potatoes for his supper and ate it all. I did give him his pain medication a bit ago, but I can’t say that he appeared to need it. One tough guy!

Bob…he was home alone until we got back mid-afternoon. It was cold and foggy this morning so he only went out briefly before we left, but it was sunny, clear and 62F when we returned so he enjoyed the late afternoon and early evening out and about. I will keep Bob in the boys room and Bear with me tonight. I feel bad doing that to Bob, but always want them close after a surgery so I know if there is any discomfort.

Hard…I have to be a little tough, too :)!

As noted, sunny, blue skies, gorgeous early almost Fall day.

Bear and I

courtesy of Auntie Kris who visited Sunday…

Uncle Hal played a rousing game of chase you, chase me with Bear before we all walked the loop…then tea, cookies, visiting and a short photo session. I’ve been wanting a photo of Bear and I and just have not taken time to fool with the tripod…

Thank you Auntie Kris and Uncle Hal from Bear and I!
