It’s Friday and we are all still alive

Mr. Bob has had a rough week.

Two vet visits and then he had a bad reaction to the first antibiotic – nausea after a bit of throwing up. He was a sad sack on Wednesday.

Bear and I made a run back to the vet and traded meds. Bob got a reprieve from all until Thursday afternoon.

He perked up yesterday and has been fine on the new stuff which is a once a day liquid so happier for both of us!

I am moving easier and more comfortable each night. Ribs tend to be a bit of a long haul but I’d rather deal with that, than a problem with a moving joint like ankle, wrist, shoulder or hip. Thankfully, the soreness in my left wrist/arm was slight. I wear ankle supporting light hiking boots in the woods and for trail walking and often carry ski poles used as hiking poles. I am ever grateful that all of me works well so that I can enjoy being outside and I’d like to keep it that way.

And speaking of things working well…the Bear boy is doing so well. He is a week off leash and doing more running and jumping every day. He has had no signs of soreness from increased activity. He has shifted easily back to our pre-op/pre-injury routine. Yea, Bear!

Yep, seems like old times :) !!

Everything is as it was.

And, per typical mid-May we are having a Montana heat wave: upper 70’s daytime, upper 40’s night time, i.e. darn near perfect.

Happy Friday.

Friday Sunshine

The windows need washing but this might not be the weekend to do it.

This week got away from me on Wednesday when we had a 3 hour power outage. It was not weather related. Three substations were involved -the power company has a wonderful OutageView web page AND my neighbor phoned with some info on passing the substations going to town. It is the longest outage since I’ve been in this house – almost 7 years.

All of my electronic gadgets were fully charged and even a spare battery for my phone. I had just made fresh airpot of hot tea AND I was showered, dressed and my hair dried…VERY important as I like to be clean and put together for working…sad, but true. Bottom line, I was in good shape to endure. BUT, although typically I do not need Internet for most of my work, this day I did. I had my usual access but I’m guessing because my access is cellular and maybe a tower or 2 was without power and traffic diverted: the internet was iffy. I finally gave up and Bear and I went for a drive and a walk. We returned to power and continued on, but it was a short Wednesday work day making for a long Thursday and early start today.

Approaching 5:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon and I will shortly call it a week. The sun is out at the moment. The extended forecast is for messy, wintry kind of weather until late next week so we will enjoy Friday Sunshine while we may.

Weekend wrap up: 4 weeks post-op v2.0

It was a full week of work, walks, sitting outside with Bob and Bear – as we ended week 4 post-op TPLO 2.

All is going very well with Bear. He is using both legs normally: getting up an down, forwards and backwards, walking and standing.

I moved the mattress back and he seems to like being higher – a better view to the game trail and the over-abundance of deer currently.

It got cooler and has been raining off and on, gray off and on, a few sun bursts off and on…

…all causing the grass to start greening up.

Bob has been annoyed at the change in weather and blames me.

Bear and I are not bothered. We’ve been able to walk between rain events and both of us enjoy the cooler temperatures.

But all is not lost for Bob. He cozies up inside…

…and we have MY favorite kind of morning: all of us together.

Daylight

5:40 p.m.

Daylight…sunshine even! This is the first time this year I’ve grilled in the daylight and not had to inspect progress by flashlight.

It was a beautiful, blue sky, sparkly kind of day. I love this time of year where one day it is wintry, the next it is sunny but cold and then a balmy day with the promise of Spring. We will go back and forth like this for several months.

Bear came out to keep me company while I turned burgers…HIS burgers!

He enjoyed a treat while he waited for his main course.

“Are those burgers done yet???”

The advantages of working from home: a clean refrigerator

It is 7:45 p.m. as I write this.

I started my work day about 7:45 a.m. There is a meeting which requires a prototype and I’m on deadline today and tomorrow.

But, midmorning, I needed to reboot my computer. I didn’t notice the little “Update” icon. I have my computer set to accept Operating System and mission critical work software (all Microsoft) updates automatically. Typically these happen at night as I don’t usually reboot during the day.

After taking Bear out for a short break during the reboot, I returned to see this:

I knew it was going to be awhile.

So, I cleaned the refrigerator.

And I made peanut butter.

Before cleaning the blender, I made a green smoothie so that all the peanut butter residue went in the smoothie: peanut butter, pineapple, kale, flax seeds and flax seed oil, vanilla protein powder and a Meyer lemon!

Sound unappetizing ???

Well, it was good and I called it lunch.

The update…it was still going.

I checked on Bob who was enjoying the sauna-like air from the dryer vent.

Bear snoozed in the sunroom.

The update finally finished.

An unexpected delay in the middle of a day with a deadline, but the sun was shining and the day went smoothly from there, even if it went long.

And I have a clean refrigerator.

And fresh peanut butter!

Sunday afternoon

The days are noticeably longer with sunset now almost 6:00 p.m. (5:52 today). I enjoy the dark winter days around Christmas but by mid-January I am happy to have more light.

Saturday was gray and we had a wee bit of Winter with a skiff of blowing snow in an afternoon squall, but today the sun came out and the skiff did not last long.

Bear and I enjoyed the late afternoon sun and fresh air: Sunday Afternoon.

**Bob was out earlier on his own and declined an invitation to join Bear and I. He was snoring in the light box cat house :) !
