Local scenery

Late, yesterday afternoon, Karl and I took a run into Bigfork for a short walk and a few errands. There were information signs from the highway department…the stretch of highway from my road south to Bigfork and north to the next town of Creston is due to be chip sealed today (Wednesday) though Friday…expect long delays…AND A MESS. Karl, the Jeeper and I will leave that highway alone until they are done. The pantry and frig are thankfully full.

But while we were out…

A favorite barn and farm.

Bright, gold canola sets off another farm.

Looking north on the road home, most of the snow is gone from the mountains. All is green. The current forecast is for warm (upper 70’s to upper 80’s F) and dry…It can dry astonishingly fast so I took some time to breathe in the green of the local scenery.

One day in July

Yesterday started cold, damp and dreary.

That required a fire…in the woodstove…in July!!

I believe the cozy fire went a long way towards Bob forgiving the indigities he suffered while I was trying to get a 4th of July photo (see yesterday’s post…)

It was a lazy day all around as short squalls alternated with brilliant sunshine and blue sky. You can see a bit of a shadow behind the big chair…

Some of the squalls were accompanied by thunder…

But then…..!!! – A rainbow. One day in July.

Happiness is…

The start of a walk…

…something to roll in…

…and roll in…

Happiness is a good walk and a roll in the grass if you are Karl, watching my good dog have a roll in the grass if you are me :)!

The road home: the misty, low cloud version

The day ranged from dark with downpour to bright sunshine and back again. When the sun was out, it felt warm at 62ish F. When it got dark and poured, I thought about a fire. A pre-weekend, mid-morning run for a few supplies was during an in between time.

The clouds hung low over the mountain tops, misty wisps of vapor dotted the foothills… the misty, low cloud version of the road home.

Big Sky Canola

Prepare yourselves…Canola is vibrant in the fields right now – this will probably not be the only canola photo… The deep, bright gold against the lush spring green, under a clear blue sky…the landscape in the valley is like the best box of Crayola’s you ever had…clear, true color that makes you want to yell to all – LOOK AT THIS!

And this afternoon, on an errand run to Bigfork, the sky was changing – clouding up, looking like it wanted to rain and thunder and add to the triumphant mix of color on the ground.

Big Sky Canola.

This morning’s walk and more lupins!

This morning began with heavy air…humid and overcast. Karl did not come out of his closet when I went outside. I believe that he feels the humidity and equates that with weather he’d rather avoid.

I decided that we’d change up the routine and putter about the woods this morning. I had to coax him outside but when I finally did, the air had cleared and dried and the sky was blue.

The lupins at the park by Flathead Lake are going to seed and looking bedraggled. But our lupins have a little more time.

The mountains, the sunlight in the woods on the grass, trees and lichen…the bumper crop of lupins – they all seem especially gorgeous this year.

And sometimes a beardog walks through the lupins…

…and meets up with his cat, which apparently is funny – at least funny enough to make a beardog smile!

But then there is a stick…

…and then we all walk home…through the lupins.
