The Road Home: Rainbow edition

I went out just before sunset to take trash to the dump, thinking I might get some “front light”. The road home was lit by the setting sun with dark clouds over the mountains. It began to rain…

I watched this rainbow form from a soft prism of light to a vivid full rainbow.

And then a second!

The complete dual rainbows with the misting rain formed a heavenly canopy over me. I tucked the camera under my coat and stood in the rain in sheer awe at the sensation. No cars passed. I never saw another soul.

The Road Home: Rainbow edition.

A favorite scene

This barn sits in one of those places that begs a photo again and again – the valley floor giving way to the Continental Divide.

Nearly all this week, the mountain tops have been shrouded in clouds, mist or squalls, but today, bits of sunshine poked through the overcast lighting the field and the golden larch.

Night light: “For the weary”

The steeper the ridgeline
The hotter the sunshine
The sweeter the alpenglow*

It’s a long way over this mountain
A long long way to climb

There’s a song that I must keep singing
It’s a prayer and it moves me through time

The things that will hurt you
The ones that desert you
They’ll help you more than you’ll ever know*

The steeper the ridgeline
The hotter the sunshine
The sweeter the alpenglow

The more the resistance
The greater the distance
The sweeter the alpenglow*

Still waters

The sun came out late this afternoon and convinced me to take a break before a final hour of work to be done. The mountain loop walk is off limits with neighbors in residence so we headed to Wayfarer’s.

The air felt balmy at 50 F.

We dawdled and watched – across the lake…Still waters.
