It is as cold as it looks

Bear and I went down the road home and then to the dump as the highway was bare and dry courtesy of a lot of chemical, apparently.

The road home is snow over ice but it had a bit of sand on parts of it and the Jeeper stuck fine.

The sun was out over most of the valley, but weather skirted along the mountains.

It wasn’t windy, but at 19F…

…it is as cold as it looks.

And today is to be the warmest as it is forecast to get down to 5 tonight with a high of 11 tomorrow and below zero overnight the rest of the week.

Bear, Auggie and I are toasty warm. The pantry and refrigerator are full.

Firewood is stacked and ready. I have extra gallons of fresh water. If there is a power outage we can still stay warm, cook and eat! A power outage is not likely at this point unless a vehicle would take out a power pole but with the main roads dry, not likely.

My worry is for livestock and wildlife but this kind of weather used to be normal for Montana so hopefully most will be well.

Moments from Monday

Does Auggie make Bear itch??? …maybe not allergy-wise, but maybe general irritation-wise (that BABY!!) :) !!

The lunch time walk scenery…hazy, but not foggy. There was some brief, morning fog, but it dissipated quickly.

Another view along the same road as the prior photo…from my parking spot for the walk, looking East. The middle of the valley WAS hazy but the fringes were clear.

Bear keeping an eye on the ever roving Auggie-boy…

Auggie, the hunter, in one of the critter-condo areas. This spot, just north of the house.

Moments from Monday.

Clouds and other good things

Bear and I took a late morning run to town for dog and cat food!

The clouds…

The clouds and sliver of lake…

And the breakthrough sun on the golden larch pine trees!

Beautiful.

Other good things…

A full jar of Linda’s (Savoring Every Bite) Pumpkin Ginger Biscotti.

I’ve made these twice. They are subtly spiced and include pecans…perfect Fall biscotti.

Bits of snow have come and gone.

It has been cold.

It has been damp.

It has been cold and damp.

This time of year, the cold and damp feel colder than the dry cold of deep winter.

A fire in the woodstove.

Clouds, biscotti, woodstove fire: good things.

When Montana decides it is Fall…it IS Fall!

The road home.

This afternoon.

A late work day yesterday (Tuesday).

A very early start today (Wednesday).

At 5:00 p.m. on the dot (Wednesday) – I called “THE END”!

Bear and I took a Jeep ride.

On the way back…

I spied…

SNOW!

Oh, yes.

Mountain Snow.

Hoo…I say….HOO-RAH!!

Friday

I’m glad this was a short work week.

I’m ready for the weekend.

I have big plans to do not much.

I think Bear has similar plans, excepting for guard duty which is nearly a full time beardog occupation.

We went to the Wild Fowl area today for a short walk – I planned on going to the lake but we were later than I wanted to be and it was hot…and muggy. We are having unusual September weather of warm/hot and humid.

They keep predicting heavy rain but so far, not at my house…just heavy damp air that is making me a bit head-achy.

But, it looked pretty.

And, it was good to drive to the area and nose around.

Bear and I are getting more comfortable. He stayed out in the yard a bit by himself this morning and seems more comfortable exploring further from me when we walk.

Friday.

A beautiful morning

Coffee’s on, oven’s heating, dough for bread is rising.

6:30 ish a.m.

Bear and I walked out to the teepee, took a right and followed the Nature Trail to a summit we like.

The swing is just in front of the teepee.

Light in the sky on our return turned the morning sky pastel pink and blue.

The green area is the RV park – beautifully landscaped to provide shade and privacy.

Such a beautiful morning for Bear and me.

Mid morning, I took a break for a Jeep ride with Bear and a walk along the Missouri on our loop walk at the state park.

We passed Big Sky Animal Medical Center. I had planned to phone and let them know I was in town and to see if they could let the crematory know…

As I passed, I just felt like I should stop.

I did.

Carly was helping someone else but she saw me, smiled and said “I was going to phone you next”.

Bob’s ashes were back from the crematory and I have them. The crematory put together a most beautiful and comforting package which included a certificate, a packet with a tuft of Bob’s fur and Bob’s ashes in a gorgeous tin painted with pansies.

I love pansies.

It all caught me a bit off guard. The fur nearly undid me. But, ultimately, it was all comforting.

I don’t believe that Bob’s spirit is in the earthly remains, but for me, it is comforting and helpful and I am so grateful to have this part of him with Bear and I as we go home.

A beautiful morning, in all ways.
