Our week end

The week end. I alternated between chores and general laziness.

The grass got mowed on Saturday and hopefully we will get the forecast rain this week as the grass looks barely greenish and it is early in the year for it to not be GREEN!

A mowing incident from two weeks ago…I don’t know what broke the rear “door” but thankfully whatever it was zipped by me or dropped inside and only the pieces of the door flew out. At any rate, no damage to me. But another chore today was to hunt up a replacement door which I did. And also a new blade and both are on their way. Meantime I have to mow with the catcher on, which means emptying the catcher (vs mulching/recycling) – a minor annoyance but an annoyance. There should be some happy mice and voles as the catch piles in the woods make lovely critter condos…

The time was right to rake pine needles off the driveway so that was accomplished. Not the entire driveway, thankfully. There are 3 trees near the garage that lose the large needles which are like straw and they refuse to blow away on their own. It went well. As with raking the yard, I did a bit at a time as I was outside with either Bob or Bear and suddenly…all done!

It did cool off, then warmed just a bit today but not so much that Bob did not appreciate the warm air from the dryer. We are due for rain and cooler temperatures which is fine by me.

Bear says ok with him for the cooler temperatures.

Our week end.

End of the week

Morning sun…

…after a hard freeze! But I covered rhubarb and lily-of-the-valley and all look fine. It was 21F on the valley floor this morning, though and I dearly hope all things survived.

Bob and I started in coziness, in the sunroom, with the heat ON.

And sunshine!

Bob in the sunroom, Bear on Beardog Point. Coffee for me with my boys in view – perfect.

And by 5:00…more perfection as Bear and I enjoyed the late afternoon.

End of the week.

Glacier Lily

Just to the right of center, a path heads north into the woods in the direction of the state land that borders my property. Just between the first “gateway” of trees, on the right…

…one lone Glacier Lily – the first I’ve seen this Spring.

Glacier Lilies are edible by both people and animals. Bears and rodents eat the root bulbs. Deer and elk eat the seed pods. According to several internet sites, the roots could be pulverized and made into a dressing for skin sores and other parts used to treat colds. The leaves and pods could be eaten raw or cooked.

For me, they are pretty and it is always a nice surprise to find one blooming in my woods.

Preferences

Bear and I got a nice walk and time outside this morning – in between rain showers. But it is gray and overcast, the air is heavy with the promise of more rain and it is a good day for napping.

As far as Bob is concerned, every day is a good day for napping! He has taken to spending a good part of his day in Wild Thing. It is warm, the accomodations are to his liking, he can survey the territory from the vantage point of a bit of height and there is no dog…

Elsewhere, the Lily-of-the-Valley grow – seemingly as I watch. Blooms next week maybe!

A Saturday afternoon

Twisted Dog: A variation of downward dog…

Twisted Woman: A glass of wine on a sunny SATURDAY (!!) afternoon :)! After noon, but considerably before 5:00…

Beardog on patrol.

This afternoon, temperatures at 60F! This is the first day that felt truly springlike with a warm-hot feeling to the air. And the sounds: birds, chainsaws, nailguns (neighbors working on their addition!), squirrels, small airplanes – everything and everyone enjoying a beautiful afternoon.

Bear alternated between lying in the sun and patrolling his perimeter with a few forays into Beardog Hill.

This hill, Beardog Hill, it apparently begs to be dug in. It was a favorite digging spot of Karl’s and now Bear has found it, too :)!

The waxing moon made an appearance in the clear blue sky.

And despite an early glass of wine, I DID start on the yard chores.

A Saturday afternoon.
